About the Heatbusters

Since 2007, the HeatBusters have been the go-to guys for all things energy efficiency in Austin, Texas.

There’s one universal truth living around this area: August in the Austin area gets hot. Real hot. Everything a homeowner can do to keep their home cool matters. We know how to help central Texans lower those brutal utility bills when the summer months rear their ugly heads, from home radiant barrier insulation to blown-in insulation and even attic ventilation. And with the home prices rising at a record rate, insulating homes only increases resale value.

Home Insulation: A Hot Take

The power of insulation is a beautiful thing because of its effectiveness. In the winter months, it’s essential to keep the heat inside, which is easy thanks to short days hidden behind the clouds. In the summer, that Texas sun can be unforgiving, so proper insulation matters. Many people don’t realize that our heat and air leak out from the strangest places. Garage door insulation, wall insulation, and attic ventilation are a few other ways to keep the cold air in and your utility bills lower.

The reason HeatBusters has been the company Austin trusts is because instead of run-of-the-mill mass insulation, which only slows down or resists heat transfer, our home radiant barrier reflects the heat before it has a chance to get inside the walls.

If you’ve been thinking about insulating your house before the weather gets in the triple digits, we’d love to help you lower your bills and keep the heat out. That’d be pretty cool.

EPA-Approved

To call anything a “radiant barrier,” the EPA has established guidelines and sets the standard that the insulator must reflect at least 90% of radiant heat – ours blocks 97%.

Radiant barrier has been tested by independent laboratories as well as the EPA. The Florida Solar Energy Center at Cape Canaveral has tested radiant barriers in both small-scale labs and full-scale building models. Their results indicate that radiation barriers provide significant heat transfer resistance. Tests conducted by esteemed labs such as:

Support the findings of the Florida Solar Energy Center. Northeastern Illinois University conducted winter tests in residential and commercial structures using infrared thermography photography. The photos showed significant resistance to heat transfer over typical insulation. What’s that mean for you? Lower energy bills.

Meet Our Team

Jim Melton, Owner

“Hi, I’m Jim! I founded The HeatBusters in 2007. My brother was working for a distributor of radiant barrier, and he said to me, “no one is installing this product, you should think about starting a business offering that service.” The next week I installed radiant barrier in my house and noticed the differences immediately.

That next week, I built a website, got a company name, and the rest is history. Over the next 15 years, and 10,000 hours later, the company has grown into what it is today.

Adding products like attic insulation and ventilation to our services made perfect sense once we saw how each product came together to work as an efficiency system. Seeing the differences in our customers’ homes, and seeing how happy they are with our services brings such a huge sense of satisfaction and motivation to my life.

When I am not growing the business, my favorite thing to do is be with my family. My wife, Megan has been in my corner since 2010. She has many fans, but I am truly her biggest. She is smarter, funnier and better looking than I could have ever hoped to be!

Lucky for the both of us she has passed all her amazing traits on to our son, Jameson. When he was born in 2017, he became our new reason for living. He keeps us on our toes with his adventurous spirit and his continual curiosity! He knows more about attics and insulation than most adults!

For fun, I also enjoy playing a round of golf and kayaking down the Blanco river as often as I can.”
